Granite levelling table and set up build

Going to be another terrific addition to the grinding room. I have been interested in this set up since seeing it online at Stephen Tuckers shop. A week or so ago I received a phone call from a local supplier that they were clearing out their shop and ask If I'd be interested in purchasing a granite surface plate at a great price.  After a lot more research I went with this set up build below.

Here it is. Sat idle for 15 years.
Time to build the rest.
Slabs 36"x25.25"x3.75+" estimated weight 800 to 1000 pounds.

Building material mostly used will be 3" angle by 1/4 ".
Might be over kill but not taking any chances.
Making up a tray for it to sit in. A new toy (plasma cutter) made quick work of it.

Small learning curve.

Getting it squared up for welding. Also check cross corner dimensions. I'm going to get this important piece as level and square as possible.

Legs next.

Sometimes the old shop saw gets used. Still developing skills on the plasma cutter.

A bunch of build picks.

Installing wheels. I went with a 300 lbs. rated wheel. Rolls pretty good but you may want to go up to a 400 lb. rated wheel. My shop floors are smooth and flat. It does roll well.

Looking good. The tray is upside down. Seems to be the way I see it in all the pics researched. Thinking of showing off the stone.

Building a bottom tray out of 2" angle 1/8"

Had a piece of diamond plate kicking around. Plasma cutter made quick work of it.

On to the paint booth

Gearing up for the big lift. I can lift the stone off the pallet pulling up on closest jack stand. So I'm figuring those 4 guys can grunt it up onto the stand easily.

I was right. Zip tying the bar on keep it from sliding. We had a little bending on the bar. I didn't want it to slide off the ends.

Looks great

Bottom tray is solid. I had to jack up one end of stone to remove the straps.

Stone cleaned up nice. Still will need to order some tool steel gauge material for checking square. decided to not do the hold down clamps for now.

My 1.5" square stock x 1/8" is not cooperating on staying flat after welding. Even after tacking one side a welding the other first, it would still slightly warp. I was going to make HOC section removeable. The original idea was to drill holes and place over bolts which could adjust up and down to level to table and install supports on the sides. But getting it solid and level was more important to me. No issues for the size, lots of room for it in grinding room.

Welding HOC section and using too long temporary extensions to level it to the slab till supports are welded in.

Test fitting a reel for rail alignment. No rock either. Must have done something right lol.

Loken good

Final paint and done for now.

Precision steel is in. Looks good

Now it's all complete. Going to be a fantastic addition to the grinding room
