Wiring up extra lights .

Fall is here and to take advantage of the earlier starts before Tee time we are adding extra light to give the operator a good view for mowing . Only a few key vehicles are getting them . LED was the way to go with there low amperage you can install them easily in the factory light circuit . 




Both our triplexes were installed with an extra LED facing the rear of the machine .


Great viewing for the operators when backing up.


Made a light bar for smaller tractor . Power source came from the rear tail lights which has its own  20 amp circuit , 


Wires ran up inside roll bar to feed the lights. 


I had these halogen flood and trapezoid lights to wire in . 3 in front 1 rear . I was concerned about the amps and circuit but it works out great . Otherwise I would have had to tuck in a relay in the tail light  and run additional power source from the battery .

Up next the 8800 rough units . These guys pretty much go non stop . The earlier they can get out the better . 


First I ran 2 x 16 gauge inside 3/8 split wire loom ,then mounted lights using zip ties . Never a good idea to drill or weld on a Roll  Bar ( ROPs)


Then expose the wire where needed to attach lights . 



 Not A big fan using butt joints in wiring but will use it here at the end of the run . 



These joint connectors from lawsons have the heat shrink built in .

and tuck back into wire loom .



in the mid run section I'll cut into the sheathing in 2 places to expose the wire .


Strip up a a good inch off light wiring and wrap around like in picture above . 


Using my mini torch solder the wires together with a small gauge resin solder . 


First of 2 coats of liquid electrical tape. wrap with electrical tape and put back in wire loom . 


Same idea for the front light . 


Also used the same process to hook into OEM lights . Ground was run to a frame bolt . 



Lots of rear to side lighting 

 Tried it out on * rough this morning . Big improvement .

Pro-Core hauler trailer .


 Here at The Links at Brunello we have a couple of Toro 648 to use out on the course . We plan on trailering one to the outskirts to save time and a long leisurely walk . Chris ( superintendent) came up with the idea of using the extra dump box for the project . It was up to my abilities to make it happen .

Flip box upside down and remove unnecessary hardware .


The box is well framed but I added extra by using 3" tube stock . 2" square tube stock was used for an axle . 


Bought a couple of axles for a great price for the guys at Vesey's . Using a piece of 6"x 6"flat stock and angle iron made for a strong mounting area to slide over axle later . 



A little bit of welding and measuring and it was time to


install the wheels . Wheels (cart tires ) came from a local clearance store . 


 Welding in some 2" square tube stock to reinforce the front of box for hitch area . It's going to hold a lot of weight . 


Welding on the hitch arm .

Welded in a 1" bar for a wheel stop at the point where it has good balance one trailer . 


And were good to go .

We had it out a few times leap frogging the aerators . Works great but I have an idea to keep it attached to the tow vehicle and still be able to tip it .

getting the trailer back on the tow vehicle .  Rob and I where discussing an idea for a better system . Looking at the Toro trans pro 80 in front of us made total sense to apply the same set up  .


Mocking up the new set up . The guys are all out getting the course ready for bed . Using the lift as the muscle to help move the trailer around made the job easy .


Had some square tube stock left over from the original build for supplies . Drilled a hole for a pin in a piece of 2" sq. tube stock and cut the back side out . 


preparing the area for welding . 



welded the plate at the point where the trailer would pivot . Might as well prime and paint it now while it's in a good position . 





Welded on a grab handle to pull balanced trailer into place . 


cut the original hitch off and weld to new tow bar . Cutting another 2" piece of stock and drilling a hole you can weld this piece to old tow bar so you can  pin the two bars together when towing .

Bonded and strengthen the tailgate area.


Had time today to finish it up and paint . The side plates kick out to receive the aerator easier . 
SOLID.

Although it works great there was a little room for improvement .
